Panzer Dragoon Legacy

Areas: Sestren data circuit

The Sestren system is perhaps the biggest mystery of the series. Explaining it is difficult, since there is little that is actually known about it. There doesn't seem to be an easy definition of it either. Although you could think of it as a super-computer that holds all the recorded information and memories of the world, the true nature of this strange place remains shrouded in mystery. The difference between the place (the Sestren data circuit) and the entity (Sestren, a golden butterfly-shaped being) that controlled it, remains unclear. memory cell
In the previous games, Sestren was the enemy, as it was fulfilling the Will of the Ancients. At the end of Panzer Dragoon Saga, Sestren was supposedly destroyed but as we can see in PD Orta the system itself still remains, and is still recording data from the surface world.
Visually, the Sestren system looks like a mix between an organic and a technological structure. Orta and Lagi travel through some sort of organic veins while anti-bodies try to attack/analyse Orta. They then reach a memory block that transports them to different memory cells. It is in these memory cells that the Sestren system stores information from the surface world. Different voices can be found in the memory cells from characters of the previous three games.

memory blockthe Fallen Ground?
It's interesting to note that the area from episode 3, the "Fallen Ground" reappears inside Sestren during the fight with the Central Data Unit Ofnir. I'm not sure if this was supposed to show us something, other than the fact that it was once a city of the Ancients. Perhaps the system is capapble of collecting geographical information about entire areas and store them in its database. Similarly, after visiting the two memory blocks, the system forwards you to a place where you can see Shelcoof, the flying Tower of the sky that appeared in Panzer Dragoon Zwei and later Saga. Sealance 'images' appear in the same area that attack Orta and Lagi, these creatures were also seen when Shelcoof first appeared. The surface below you seems like a reptilian skin, presumably that of a dragon. Again, I'm not sure if there is a reason why we were shown this area. Perhaps we were retracing Lagi's history.

According to Pandora's Box, the surface world may be nothing more than a testing ground for the Sestren itself. A testing ground for what? The exact answer remains unknown. Three of PD Orta's minigames shed some more light to the true nature of the Sestren. It is capable of running a World Analysis System, using information from within its memory cells. In this System, it can simulate battles with a Continuous Battle Simulation Program. I assume that this means that the Sestren can simulate the battle between any of the creatures or weaponry it has stored in its memory cells.
