Characters: Letral Naus Demilcol
Letral was Iva's father and a researcher at the Imperial Academy. We find out that he was working on the Dragonmare project and was involved in the attack on Yelico Valley. He told Iva that he was leaving for the Seeker city to collect important research materials. These research materials were in fact nothing else than the half-drone Orta, but Iva did not know this. Iva did know however that his father's research involved weapons, and he argued with his father about this the day before he left to Yelico Valley. Iva was angry at his father, telling him that he only cared about his work. He wished his father never came back. The following day, Iva learned that you have to be careful what you wish for, as he found out his father died that night during the attack. Of course Iva didn't mean what he said, and blamed himself for the death of his father.

He didn't understand why his father helped create the Dragonmares, but his father had left a message for him that would explain everything. Although the keepsake Iva got from his father's co-worker at the Academy didn't seem to have any meaning, he later found out it actually contained a letter. In this letter, Letral Naus explained why he was involved in the Dragonmare project. Iva carried a deadly virus for which he had to take a medicine every day. This medicine was derived from the fluids of bio-engineered monsters, but the virus eventually grew immune to it. Letral naus kept searching for more powerful bio-engineered monsters to create a stronger medicine, but eventually he didn't find any bio-engineered monster that was suitable for creating a medicine strong enough to counter the virus. He had no other choice than to help create the Dragonmares, and used their fluids to create a better medicine. Although he knew it was wrong to unleash such monsters on the world, Letral Naus couldn't just let Iva die. At the end of his letter, he told Iva not to give up and try to find a cure for his disease.
The one thing I find curious about Letral Naus is that he left Iva a letter container that was used by tribes out in the frontiers. How did he get this, and why did he decide to give this to Iva? Perhaps he had travelled to these frontiers for research, but it's also possible that he wasn't always an Imperial. His past remains a mystery for now, and we'll probably never find out the truth. Then again, this kind of mysteries is what Panzer Dragoon is all about. |
